Here is my recap and analysis of Week 16’s games
Packers defeat Titans 40-14. Packers with a dominant win and they stay atop the NFC, with a win next week they will clinch the #1 seed, they played a very strong game, Rodgers was strong throwing for 4 TD’s and the Packers rushed the ball well also and played a good defensive game. I like what the Packers have and I think they are probably the favorites to win the NFC. The Titans have a good team, but I have a couple of concerns about them - they have no pass rush and are last in the NFL in sacks, and while Tannehill has had a very good year I have a hard time trusting him to carry the team if needed. But the Titans still have some great offensive weapons and they could be a threat in the playoffs.
Seahawks defeat Rams 20-9. Seahawks with a big win to clinch the NFC West behind a good defensive performance and a solid performance from Wilson. The Seahawks defense has drastically improved over the last several games, and their offense is very dangerous, and they are starting to click and I think this team will very dangerous in the playoffs. The Rams are remarkably inconsistent - they are complete and have a good amount of talent, but they are very unpredictable, and Goff isn’t playing very well right now, and he has to play better and not turn the ball over for the Rams to win. The Rams are a hard team to figure out, but next weeks game against the Cardinals is a must win for them.
Steelers defeat Colts 28-24. Steelers with a great comeback win after being down 17, Big Ben played a great second half and carried the team to a much needed win to stop the bleeding and clinch the AFC North. The Steelers have talent but I’m not sure how far Roethlisberger can carry them as they lack a strong rushing attack, but their defense is very good and they have a lot of talent. The Colts choked, no excuse for blowing this game, and I have doubts about how far the Colts can go, even though they are a complete team I’m just not sure if they will play up to their potential if they get in the playoffs.
Chiefs defeat Falcons 17-14. Chiefs clinch the #1 seed in the AFC with this win, it wasn’t their best performance by any means and they struggled for large parts of the game, but Mahomes played well when it mattered and led them on a game winning drive. The Chiefs have a boatload of talent and are in my opinion the NFL’s best team, and they will be very hard to beat in the playoffs. The Falcons lose another close game, and I think they need to clean house, and I wonder if Ryan will still be starting next season for them as the Falcons might draft a QB as they will get a high draft pick. They have talent, but they need to find a way to win close games and patch up holes on defense.
Cowboys defeat Eagles 37-17. Cowboys with a dominant win and they stay alive in the NFC East, they played up to their potential on offense today as they have a lot of talent on offense and it showed today, I think they are the most talented team in the NFC East but they will be lucky to win the division. The Eagles have had a lousy season all around and have been eliminated from the playoff race, and I wonder what their future holds, will Hurts be their QB next year? I think Wentz is done there, and the Eagles have a lot of other places they need help at such as their secondary, their LB’s and their O-Line, those areas could all use improvement.
Ravens defeat Giants 27-13. Ravens are playing very well and are showing why they are a playoff caliber team, they will likely get in, Jackson hasn’t been as great as he was last year but he’s playing solid football and they have a great rushing attack, and they are a talented team. The Giants are still alive in the NFC East, but I don’t think they will win it, they are just mediocre on both sides of the ball and are still rebuilding IMO.
Jets defeat Browns 23-16. Jets have now won 2 in a row, and this is a terrible loss for the Browns, while they were without almost all of their receivers, losing to a 1 win team is still an inexcusable loss for a playoff caliber team, and suddenly the Browns will need help to get into the playoffs. The Jets are terrible, and it will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason and if they keep Darnold, I think he could be okay with a better coach, and I hear they will likely trade their #2 overall pick for more picks and try to rebuild all around, they need a lot of help on both sides of the ball.
Panthers defeat Washington 20-13. Panthers get the win, they are an average team with some offensive talent, it will be interesting to see if they keep Bridgewater for next season, their defense is their main weakness. Washington had a chance to win the NFC East but didn’t win, and I think Haskins is terrible and if Smith were healthy his career in Washington would be done after his terrible play combined with stupid off field antics, Washington clearly cannot win with Haskins, a win next week win clinch the division for them, but Smith has to be healthy and they need McLaurin healthy as well. They still need to improve in several areas but they have some talent and Rivera has done a great job.
Bears defeat Jaguars 41-17. Bears are playing well and have a chance to get in the playoffs next week, Trubisky has surprised me with his solid play and their offense is playing much better, their defense is very talented, and they could get in the playoffs despite their struggles at various points in the season. The Jags are terrible, but they will get the #1 pick in the draft and get Trevor Lawrence next year, and I think they could be a decent team right off the bat next year with Lawrence as they have some talent.
Chargers defeat Broncos 19-16. Meaningless game between 2 losing teams, but the Chargers get the win in a close one, I think the future is bright for them with Herbert at QB and they have talent, they were in the playoffs just 2 years ago. The Broncos are a question mark going forward and I’m not sold on Lock, but they aren’t without talent.
Bengals defeat Texans 37-31. Another meaningless game, Bengals will have a lower draft pick after this win, but they have offensive talent and will be better next year with a healthy Burrow. The Texans have had a horrid season, despite Watson playing well, they have a weak defense and no rushing game, and I’m unsure how much they will improve next season as the Dolphins own their first round pick.
Any thoughts?
