Arseholes in the anti-religion religion say much, much, much worse things about billions of people they don’t know, I wonder whether most would consider it "worse" to be called an asshole, or to be told that some particular belief they have is irrational... It levels he playing field to fight back at you guys. LOL

It’s about optimism and well wishes. “PLEASE CROSS YOUR FINGERS THAT I GET THIS JOB I WANT!” It’s human nature. So does this mean you think most people don't think prayer helps them get what they want? Hard to tell since you can't answer a direct "yes or no" question.

LOL "Level the playing field?" You do realize that atheists are a pretty small minority in the world, yes? We only make up about 7% (based on a quick Google search) of the world's population.

It's probably pointless trying to explain this to you, but I'll try: why should they take asthma medicine? The person with asthma needs the asthma medicine to live. So? Why should they live or want to live?

I think any avowed and openly atheist person standing for office in quite a few countries around the world would find this a reality.

No, many of them are just saying I'm going to burn in hell for eternity for not believing what they believe.

Right, so your "they ought to take their asthma medication" requires their subjective desire to want to live. Without that subjective desire, it makes no sense say "it's rational for them to take their asthma medication," right?

No, many of them are just saying I'm going to burn in hell for eternity for not believing what they believe. I’m Jewish. Christians don’t say such things to people all that much anymore. I’ve never seen it on this board. Judaism doesn’t believe in hell.

Israel usually gets millions of Christian visitors and they are very nice.

Their "want to live" is a subjective desire, so for "they ought to take their asthma medication" to be rational, it requires their subjective "want to live," right? Nobody is disagreeing with that. Just like if somebody wants to be happy, and believing in God makes them happy, they should.

Nobody is disagreeing with that. Just like if somebody wants to be happy, and believing in God makes them happy, they should. OK, now we're moving on to the God issue. What you're arguing is that your belief in God is rational relative to your desire to be happy. However, the issue of something's existence is not dependent upon your desires. The sun, moon, stars, grass, animals, trees, rocks, etc. all exist regardless of whether you want them to exist or not. Their existence is in no way dependent upon your desires. God's existence is the same way, it's completely independent of your subjective desires. Truth, IN GENERAL, is completely independent of your objective desires, and rationality is about the reasoning we use to form true beliefs. This is why saying "it's rational to believe in God because it makes me feel good" is fundamentally different than something like "it's rational to take your asthma medicine." The latter is totally dependent upon someone's subjective desire to live. The existence of God is not dependent on any subjective desire. To believe in something that may or may not exist based on a desire rather than evidence is a textbook logical fallacy. To deny this is to basically deny the entire field of rationality and logic. If what you're saying is true, then you should rewrite the entire "Wishful Thinking" entry on Wikipedia because, according to you, that's not even a logical fallacy.
