I think the best word to describe L'INCREDIBILE STORIA DELL'ISOLA DELLE ROSE (ROSE ISLAND) is "Cute." As far as feel-good underdog stories go, this one achieves a lot of its goals. The heroes are a likable gang and a lot of scenes are enhanced by the song selection. I know it's not a documentary, but there's 1 dramatized aspect that bothered me. You see, in real life, when engineer Giorgio Rosa decided to build his own micro-nation, his wife Gabriella supported the idea. Here, at the beginning, they've broken up because she thinks he's too much of a daydreamer and his inventions only cause trouble. I understand wanting to give them an arc (to fall in love again and eventually get married), but doesn't this diminish the bond they shared in real life? Was it worth it? I mean, there already was enough conflict in the plot. 5/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
