So, to work remotely I have a company laptop, and also can access my work desktop via VPN. Part of what I do is drop items into our accountant's server for tax purposes. This is what I have experienced in the last two days: 1. I can't access the accountant's server from my company laptop. Something with the IP being changed. The tech guy I use is away until the middle of the month. So, I figure, no worries, I'll just access my work desktop via the VPN. 2. Try logging in, no issue. When the access screen comes up, it loops, then it say "connection failure". I close that screen, but on the main screen where I log in it's showing I'm connected. I can't disconnect because I can't get in. UGH!!! I, I figured I'd scan some things and then email them over on a secure upload. 3. I turn on my freaking expensive printer/copier/scanner that is TWO FREAKING years old, and the scanner is making a loud noise, and a message comes up on the printer/copier/scanner screen saying SCANNER FAILER. I follow all the fix steps, but it appears the scanning mechanism is DAMAGED, which is weird because I used it yesterday to scan a receipt for FLEX dollar submission. I figure I'll buy the scanner part and install it. 4. Go on the device site, and they no longer support a two year old printer/copier/scanner, so I can't even get the part. 5. Look for other sellers, and found a refurbished one - that's all there is out there - for $74.99. 6. For the hell of it, I look online to see what a new printer/copier/scanner is that will meet my needs - $350 low end to $550 or more. So, now I'm trying to decide if I chance buying the refurbished scanner part, or just bite the bullet and buy a new fucking device. I hate HP. 7. In the meantime, I kind of dead in the water, and I can't go into the office because I was there yesterday for 1.5 hours, which is all they want us there once a week until after January (Holiday COVID uptick). /rant

Wow. And I thought I had it bad yesterday! LOL
I'm also working remotely. To make calls thru my laptop, I have to log in to Cisco Jabber.
At the trail end of Thursday (New Year's Eve), I got kicked off of Jabber. I figured it was a sign for me to exit.
Nope - couldn't get on to it yesterday. Was down for the majority of yesterday. That is, I couldn't take inbound calls or make outbound calls to clients.
Luckily, I didn't have a lot of clients to get in touch with via phone. What ones I did - I called on my personal cell.
Back up and running with Jabber this morning. All good!

It's so annoying. All this stuff I had taken home to work on is just sitting there. I'm hoping the printer/copier/scanner elves come while we're asleep tonight and fix it. In the meantime, I have a 4:00 PM call with our Controller. All I've been able to do is emails and pulling stuff off secure websites.

A company computer sounds terrible. I'm so glad I can just do a remote connection to my office computer with my home one. Plus it means I can screw around outside the remote connection without them being able to spy on me

Yeah, it sucks when my toaster doesn't work. Toasting bread in the oven is a pain in the ass.

In some cases it’s not too bad.
As the joke goes when an escalator breaks down all it really means is that you have stairs.

What sucks the most is when technology doesn't work in the middle of a timed final exam. Had an issue with one of mine but thankfully the prof didn't penalize me for it. Now I've learned to always back up my answers on a Word document and make sure any files I upload are actually uploaded.

Plus it means I can screw around outside the remote connection without them being able to spy on me I like the fact that I don't have to: 1. Use my personal computer to log in via VPN 2. Don't have to lug a laptop back and forth. The company-issued laptop stays at my house. 3. They aren't able to "spy on me".

If I want to just cl minimize the remote connection window on mine and watch 3 hours of tentacle porn they've got no way of knowing. With a company machine I'd have to do that on a whole separate computer.

If I'm not doing anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about.
