just re-watched the classic and suddenly wondered why it is called "the third man". My interpretation is that when the car accident occurs in which the police informer Harbin, not Lime, dies, there are three men present in the street: Kurtz, Popescu and the "third man", who helps to carry the dead body across the street. That third man is actually Harry Lime. They have pushed Harbin in front of the truck and then pretend it's Lime. Harbin gets buried and Lime, wanted by the police, walks around free. Harry Lime is thus "The Third Man". Is that right?
