Solomon and Sheba (1959)
Star and co-producer Tyrone Power had shot more than half of the film when he collapsed during a dueling scene with George Sanders and died a few minutes later. Yul Brynner replaced Power as Solomon, and reshot all of Power's scenes. Power is still visible in some long shots.

Veronica Cartwright was originally slated to play the now iconic role of Ripley in Alien but with shooting already started it was only when she went down for a costume fitting did she realise she'd been bumped from Ripley to the lesser role of Lambert, a role she hadn't even read for. She was (and apparently still is) furious by the snub (made worse by the fact that much of her role as Lambert ending on the cutting room floor). The official line was Ridley Scott changed his mind at the last moment feeling she wasn't quite right for Ripley although there have been persistent rumours that Weaver's dad, a media exec bigwig, used his influence to wedge his daughter into the prime role at the last moment.

Kevin Bacon replaced Michael Keaton in Mystic River. Kevin Bacon replaced Jean-Claude Van Damme in Super. Patrick Swayze replaced Kevin Sorbo in Black Dog. Hugh Jackman replaced Dougray Scott in X-Men. The Michael Keaton one fascinates me, supposedly some scenes were shot but Keaton and Clint Eastwood weren't seeing eye to eye on things, and Kevin Bacon was brought in as a replacement. The idea of Michael Keaton and Clint Eastwood butting heads seems so interesting to me, would love to learn more about what was going on between them, seems like that alone would make a pretty interesting tale. |

Cameron Diaz was set to play Sonja Blade in the Mortal Kombat movie back in 1995. She was fresh off the Mask and smokin hot. I think she got injured and had to miss several weeks or months so they recast the role with Brigitte Wilson.
