Hubei. My hometown is across the river from Hunan. Ahhh … probably the only really Hubei-specific food I know of is spicy duck necks, kinda made famous through the excellent 2002 film Life Show. I almost went there in late-2019, but I decided to go to Changsha instead (for the stinky tofu, of course).
I think the only other film I've seen for Hubei was Gone With The Light, which was filmed in Yichang. Great cast (Tan Zhuo, Huang Bo, Vicky Chen, Huang Lu, etc), and possibly the most perfect ending for film since Christian Petzold's Phoenix.

I'm a nationalist admittedly. And politically I hate the concept of globalization.
But I think she's just talking about enjoying different cultures.

I prefer them less burnt, but they're yummy.

She toyed with looking like a boy and being white. She dyes her hair all the time and jokes about how it makes her look like another person or ethnicity.

I see it differently. She's in her 20's and just experimenting. Many of us do that. I did different personas in my 20's, from Marxist to Nazi. She'll settle down in her 30's.

I prefer them less burnt, but they're yummy. I'd try it. I know a lot about Chinese food and I have never heard of that one. I'd been told about Changsha Stinky Tofu as a must-try by several people, so I went there to check it out … but long before I got there, I realised that going to Changsha to try this famous dish was like going to Kentucky because you've heard Kentucky Fried Chicken is great.
The verdict: you've gotta do everything once, but I don't miss it. Unlike the youcha for breakfast in Guangxi - fresh tea leaves, chilli, salt, fried up in camellia oil then stewed into a broth and poured over spring onions, peanuts and puffed rice … is there a better way to start the day than with a savoury version of coco-pops with the caffeine content of three espressos?

So people in Nigeria are the same as Quebecois are the same as Parisians? There's even a cultural divide between Paris and the rest of France. And what about all the parts of Canada besides Quebec? And what does Russia have to do with any of that?
I'm not attacking your attraction to Russia but you seem to bounce around with these things.
