Is this a joke? If it were the only film to have come out this year, I'd vacate the Oscars completely. It was a terrible movie from premise to finished product.

This happens every year. Studios promote their films for Oscar consideration, including those without a prayer. Wonder Woman might pick up a tech nomination or too but nobody really expects it to crack the major categories.

None will happen, though it might be able to land a best sound nomination.
The only other nomination that would have any merit is Best Original Score.

Best Ensemble cast is an Oscar category now?

Best Ensemble cast is an Oscar category now? My first thought. Also in my first thought: Ensemble casts often lead to shit films. Not always, but frequently.

LOL, studios do this all the time for movies with no chance of being nominated for the more prominent categories. Back in 2019, Disney campaigned for Avengers: Endgame, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Frozen 2, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to be nominated for numerous Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. Sure, most of these movies are good, but Best Picture-good?

I am not sure how many other high-profile movies were directed by women this year, so Patty Jenkins might get a nomination just so that The New York Times and The LA Times and a certain segment of Twitter can't complain about all Best Director nominees being male.

I defend DCEU and I love BvS Ultimate Edition and Man of Steel etc... I’m looking forward to Snyder’s JL... and I even really like Wonder Woman (2017)
But WTF? I hated WW84 and Birds of Prey.
I don’t know who was in charge of retcon at WB, but Jesus Christ.
I’m so glad AT&T listened to the fans and went back to the good stuff. WW84 was trash.

It would be VERY funny if the Academy STILL decided to ignore WW84, even with the current drought going on. The ultimate humiliation.

I doubt there will be many "high-profile" films in the running this year. I think smaller films and streaming films will dominate, and many of those predicted to be nominated are directed by women. There will be female directors nominated, but Jenkins won't be one of them, and on no level deserves to be

I don't even know if going ahead with the Oscars is really that viable this year. Films will be nominated just for the sake of it and ones that have largely gone direct to streaming due to the pandemic crisis. WW1984 is plug for girl power only, but knowing how woke and superficial the Academy are, they may decided to consider it. Any film that gets nominated this year, will just likely fly under the radar as not leaving much of an impression.

Cool, I made a crappy Star Wars remake in elementary school (Darth Vader was played by some fat kid in a mask). I'm gonna campaign for "Best Picture" for it as well (the world needs to recognize my genius)
