He was also kidnapped by pirates and held for ransom. It didn’t end well for them...

Maybe not a interesting fact, but the Romans had a knack for getting their asses royally kicked in battle after battle and still surviving. Heraclea and Asculum (Pyrrhic victories). Lake Trasimene, Cannae, Carrhae, Edessa, Adrianople. Then to the Eastern (Byzantines). Yarmuk, Pliska, Amorium. The Empire lasted 382 years after Manzikert, 249 years after the fall of Constantinople to the 4th Crusade.
Always liked Crassus's fire department. Marcus Licinius Crassus, the riches man in Rome (maybe of all time) ran the only fire fighting unit in the City. If someone's house was on fire, they would run to the location. And Crassus would offer to by the house, for peanuts. If the owner refused, they would let it burn. If the offer was taken, the fire would be put out. Nice guy. Supposedly, when the Parthians captured him after the Battle of Carrhae, they poured molten gold down his throat.

Me and him might share the same birthday even though July didn’t exist back then.

Apparently this because of Crassus complete defeat in the battle of Carrhae.

Good thing Ben Franklin had a more socialist model in mind when he started up the modern fire department.

Speaking of Crassus, isn't this a neat model kit box art? I was looking for a larger image of it, and whoa! This is too big.
