These two men were famous for making comedies around the new Millennium.
Between the years 2000 - Present.
Now, I’m not asking who is the better writer or director (talent) because with “War Dogs” and “Joker”, I think we know who has better range.
I’m asking, “Which Director Makes Funnier Movies?”
Judd Apatow:
“40 Year Old Virgin” “Knocked Up” “Funny People” “This is 40.” “Trainwreck”
Todd Phillips:
“Road Trip” “Old School” “The Hangover” (Trilogy) “Starsky and Hutch” “Due Date”

Good Point. I didn’t put War Dogs or Joker for Phillips either.

Good Point. I didn’t put War Dogs or Joker for Phillips either. Oh, I thought it's because those are more dramatic.

Todd Phillips and it's not even close.
Old School alone is better than anything that unfunny hack Apatow has ever done.

I like both. It’s difficult for me to decide between the two. Maybe Phillips by a hair.

I don’t find Todd Phillips particularly funny whereas I routinely laugh at Apatow films including the dramadies

I like 40YOV and Knocked Up more than any of Todd Phillips's comedies but I also hate Funny People more than any of Todd Phillips's comedies. I never saw Trainwreck and This is 40.

I need to make an adjustment.
Who makes the funnier movies - Todd Phillips
Who makes the better movies - Judd Apatow
Judd Apatow makes movies that are much more dramatic and realistic than Todd Phillips. Judd Apatow is more along the lines of James L. Brooks, but with more blatant humor.
Obviously Old School is going to be funnier than Knocked Up, because Old School has a much more comedic premise.
My issue with Todd Phillips is that most of his movies are less than the sum of their parts and they often involve unlikable characters. His movies aren't relatable.

I am a big fan of Funny People (I get why many people dislike it though), but This Is 40 and Trainwreck I don't think are good movies at all. The King of Staten Island is actually decent though. Bill Burr gives one of the best supporting performances of the year of all people.

I am a huge fan of Bill Burr. I love his stand-up (for reasons I am sure you can guess ) and I am also a big fan of his Netflix animated series, F is for Family. I haven't been able to watch The Mandalorian, because I don't have Disney+ and I am paying for too many other streaming services already. I had no idea that Bill Burr plays a role in it. Have you seen his Philly rant?

Have you seen his Philly rant? I think the only one I'm actually paying for right now is Hulu for $2. My family and I kind of each have a service and just share. Burr is only a guest star in a couple eps, but he's really good. Also, someone edited audio from his podcast of him ranting about hating Star Wars *into* the eps which is pretty funny. I just saw the Philly rant, and as someone who's been to Philly, it was cathartic and hilarious. 🤣
