Psycho is vastly superior.
Homicidal is good too though.

I seem to remember a few contemporary critics saying Homicidal was better than Psycho, which is a joke. I don't know if those comments were made tongue in cheek or it was William Castle sending out propaganda for his feature.
It's a Psycho rip off done up really well by Castle and some of it fairly scary, although he could have dispatched with his usual gimmick, in this case the Fright Break. The Break succeeded, but only as an unintended jump scare when the sudden intrusion of a loud off screen voice during a crucial scene announced, "This is the fright break!" Everyone jumped in their seats but no one left before the end of the picture.
I have the dvd and still enjoy the movie. But, superior to Psycho? I don't think so.
If you want a truly frightening Castle film, look up The Night Walker with Barbra Stanwick. The superb musical score will send a chill up your spine. It may be Castle's best movie.

I liked Homicidal until the ending, which was just a bit too close to Psycho for me. Psycho is far superior.

If Homicidal was directed in a more Hitchcockian way it would have been better remembered. I guessed the twist beforehand. Back then dubbing someone's voice wouldn't have been so noticeable though. It was clever how they tried to make it hard to figure out.

Hitchcock mentions that Psycho wasn't originally well received here:

On the review website 1000 Misspent Hours, the writer confesses that he prefers Homicidal over Psycho and gives his reasons:
Personally, I think Psycho is far superior, though Homicidal is a good film in its own right. Its ending is quite weak where the villain's actions are revealed to be motivated by greed rather than revenge or plain insanity.

Homicidal would not have existed without Psycho.

I LOVE The Night Walker, I've seen it on Svengoolie twice.
