I dislike them both about the same. Both 4 out of 10 for me. If I compared the Russian versions, The Little Mermaid and The Scarlet Flower I prefer The Little Mermaid.

Neither are a favorite of mine, but if I had to choose I would go with The Little Mermaid. I like the look and song score better. I feel a bit empty or feel like something is missing when I watch Beauty and the Beast.

I prefer Beauty and the Beast, mainly because Belle is a better written female protagonist and the romance between her and the Beast had more meaning than Ariel and Eric's.

I need to re-watch both before answering this query. Haven't seen The Little Mermaid since childhood and Beauty and the Beast since Easter 2016.
The Little Mermaid has a much better villain and the best song out of the bunch - "Under the Sea". Story-wise, I'm not sure which of the two I prefer.

LM also has a great traditional animated Disney villain in Ursula and I agree wholeheartedly about LM's score being a tad superior to Beast.

Ursula is awesome, but Gaston is the all-time villain IMO because it was his narcissism and vanity that made him horrible. All human beings have the potential to be Gaston. |
