don't know, but....
Lean Hitchcock Ford Wyler Wilder Altman etc etc etc
Was there such a thing as film school then?
And every one of these and more leaves Spielberg in their dust.

Looking at the list of directors who apparently didn’t go to film school, I guess I’d go with Stanley Kubrick.

There was not film school when most of my favorite directors were active. They learned on-the-job.
Alfred Hitchcock John Ford Michael Powell Akira Kurosawa John Huston Stanley Kubrick Jean-Pierre Melville ...and many others who flourished in the classic era (Beginnings to 1969).

From my Top 5
As far as I know Ozu never went to film school, but was "trained" through the Japanese studio system.
Tarkovsky went to film school, Wong Kar-wai was trained through studio work, Lynch went to art school and made films, if that counts.
Which leaves my stock answer of Lav Diaz.
