Conan the Barbarian - Our title character kills Mr. Doom, then sits in quiet contemplation for what seems a really long time until burning it all down. He then leaves with King Osric's daughter. We do get that powerful image of an older Conan upon the throne but the ending really isn't all that exciting. It pales in comparisons to scenes like the attack on Doom's pleasure palace. Now I think more about it, I'm reminded of how Apocalypse Now ended with Willard just leaving the Kurtz compound. John Milius co-wrote both movies.

I love the Conan ending. Surreal vibes and almost no dialogue, I’ve always found it to be pretty cool.
One example I could think of is Goodfellas...not a bad ending at all, but underwhelming when compared to the zip of the rest of the movie.

I love when Henry just breaks the fourth wall during the courtroom scene. I really need to revisit this movie.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Do you mean the entire last act or just the final scene? I like the last act even though it sort of lazy, but the final scene cheapens everything that comes before.

The Matrix
The ending just feels like he can do anything all of a sudden and it isn't well explained. Even if it was better explained, the final confrontation between Neo and Agent Smith is silly and underwhelming.

Yeah, the final scene with the ghost car and sex doll. Yeah, the part where she is pulled through the door window is ridiculous looking.

What? If anything Snowpiercer is the underwhelming film with a good ending. Are you crazy?

Melville’s Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle, duh) (1970) has a rather abrupt ending after a terrific must-see rest-of-the-movie.
Like “The Empire Strikes Back,” Back To The Future II also stops after scene telling us the story will continue in the next movie.
