Here in America we have many generations of welfare recipients who raise their kids to be welfare recipients as a "career path."
That's why some people have such an issue with it.
Welfare has a place, a good place as a stop gap measure, as a social security net for people in need, and it's important. I support it. But there needs to be measures in place so it doesn't become a "career" and people aren't being paid to use it that way.

You are on an exciting career path in linguistics, so, screw her, she didn't know what she was talking about. Career welfare recipients sell themselves short because it's not much of a life. They got rid of lifetime welfare in States back in the 90's. SSDI started getting abused instead. I see people on the psych unit all the time who do this.

That's odd. European immigrants don't do that. Even illegal immigrants from Mexico don't go on welfare (except the women with kids).

A big issue I have with it is 2/3 of the women on welfare are there because they're illiterate, so they can't read sufficiently enough to get a job. Since we know this, why doesn't anybody do anything about it?

I'm sorry. Ebony's parents are horrible. The fact she still became so ambitious and independent really speaks volumes about her character.

I work part time and got food stamps, they help. Thank goodness, in America we have government safety nets like subsidized housing, public aid, social security, etc. You will always have exploitative people.
