Yeah, I guess this Jim Carrey mid 90s film, is one of those which seems to have divided the fans and movie goers at that time, probably even still does today. I remember how lousy it was promoted as a kid, where short the teaser tv trailer, made it look like yet another goofy over-the-top slapstick Carrey routine, but once I finally saw it, there was little to none laughter, and a lot of unanswered questions in return. Still, I am very glad I decided to re-watch it, much later on. As it turned out to work far more successfully then, and I guess no big surprise, as a lot of the sex jokes and darker themes, sure went way above my head back then. Now, I think it is among Carrey's finest acting performances, and I am just glad it did not end up with Chris Farley, in a more "light hearted and likeable" part, which I believe was also the first choice for Chip Douglas. But once Jim arrived, all that went out the window. I rate it somewhere between a 7,5/10 and 8/10. Depends which mood I am in, but anyway a favorite of mine from Jim Carrey and his golden days. You could clearly see where a lot of his comedy stuff from Me, Myself and Irene (2000) was inspired from, but I think The Cable Guy was a much better and funnier film than that one.

9/10 Easily my favourite Jim Carrey film. I wish I could say it was my number one favorite film, but I guess that spot migth go out to either Dumb and Dumber or The Mask, but for me, I have always thought he delivered his finest comedy part in the role of Chip Douglas. Would have loved to see another film with Stiller and Carrey together, as they seemed to click very well together.

7.5/10 (8 in the poll). Unconventional but funny.

I might have gave ‘The Mask’ the edge, if it went down a darker path with its comedy.

C+ I just can't quite buy what it's selling much of the time, not least the family game night & how they're all so oblivious to his weirdness. Still, it does stay true to itself all the way through its closing shot.
