He’s brought this up before. But I think he’s being too harsh. I think it’s awesome myself.

I was glad to see Amrish Puri in Hollywood for once. He played, by far, the most fearsome and memorable villain in any Indiana Jones film ever made.

I knew he doesn’t like it, but amusingly enough I’ve always thought Temple is the most personal to Spielberg of the Indys. (I do prefer Raiders, but just by a smidgen.) It’s of a piece with Jaws, Duel, Poltergeist, and The Goonies. And, despite his protestations, I still think that.

Parts of Temple of Doom are really well done. The nightclub scene and the resulting car chase and the rope bridge are particularly well done. However, the dining sequence was unnecessary and over the top (I would have preferred maybe a more simple conversation about the Thuggees and the introduction of the prince over a few drinks) and while I liked the caravan ride to the palace, the endless Willie screaming or complaining just about drove me nuts. It's the only Indiana Jones film I didn't see in the theater on initial release (I did see it during a Jones marathon at AMC years later). I honestly like KOTCS a bit better than TOD overall. It's like a nightmare remake of Cary Grant's Gunga Din.
Last Crusade 10/10 Raiders 9/10 KOTCS 6.5/10 TOD 6/10

It wasn't as good as Raiders or Last Crusade, but I still like it.

Wait Temple of Doom is seriously the one he regretted? Did he just completly block Crystal Skull from his memory?

Wait Temple of Doom is seriously the one he regretted? Did he just completly block Crystal Skull from his memory? I think Temple of Doom was more "his" film than Crystal Skull (in which he was more or less just a hired hand) so it probably means more to him than Crystal Skull does.

“It was too dark, too subterranean, and much too horrific.""
That's precisely why it was so good. And when he reverted to the lighter, friendlier style in Kingdom, it tanked.
I have a theory that he only "dislikes" because it was labelled as a racist movie by snowflakes so he has to disown it by default.

It's bad enough that I skipped Crystal Skull entirely when I heard it was worse.
Now he should disown The Lost World.

Strange that he didn't also mention the screaming blonde woman who also helped suck the fun out of the film.
