The story behind the creation of 'Naked Came The Stranger' by Penelope Ashe is an interesting one. It's said to have been written by 24 journalists, a chain led by journalist Mike McGrady, with each author contributing a chapter for a book in the spirit of spicy romance.
The book was so successful, publishers offered McGrady money to produce a follow-up. The book was in the tradition of parlour games like 'Consequences', 'Cadavre Exquis' and 'Mad Libs'. Many works of art have drawn inspiration from this model. For example, the composition 'Party Pieces' written and assembled by John Cage, Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison and Virgil Thomson in the 1940s.
I've recently been reading about McGrady's work to further womens' rights. He was an interesting figure, a journalist from New York City, New York who was instrumental in helping Linda Lovelace battle back against the porn industry. He was also an ally of Gloria Steinem, the great feminist thinker and intellectual eroticist from Toledo, Ohio.

I remember this, I think TIME magazine did a big article about it, it was supposed to be a hoax. There was also a movie by the same name but I don't know if it was based on the book, I never read the book nor saw the movie.

I've not seen the movie which appears to be an adult film, but I have seen several non-adult films by the director Radley Metzger. He made a version of 'The Cat And The Canary' in the 1970s wth an all-star cast.

Good title.
Much better then 'The Stranger Came While Naked', which would have been too full of innuendo.
