A Beautiful Mind and Batman & Robin were written by the same guy. Speaking of Batman & Robin and extreme change in tone and subject matter, Joel Schumacher followed up that movie with 8MM.

What I find funny is that he'd made a pretty grounded and intelligent movie about a vigilante right before his Batman with Falling Down. Cut to batnipples and "I'll get drive thru".

Well to be fair he was under studio pressure to make the movie more "toy friendly" (he even pretty much apolgoized for this on the director commentary). I still think Forever was worse though (which was just tediously dull). Not sure why Burton didn't return, the Schumacher movies still take place in the same universe.

I am a fan of most of his movies from The Lost Boys to A Time to Kill. And then he came back with 8MM, Tigerland and Phone Booth. Unfortunately his movie career went into a deep dive after that and it never recovered. He got good work directing TV though, like House of Cards.

Between Scream 2 and Scream 3, Wes Craven directed a grounded Oscar nominated drama about a music teacher.

Joel said some contradictory things on the subject, like "They're called comic books, not drama books". That kinda makes it sound like he wouldn't make something like Batman Begins even if he could. Burton said he basically took the hint WB didn't want him back after his crazed BDSM movie with mutants biting people's noses off ruined their Happy Meal tie-in. So the studio definitely wanted something lighter, and Joel may have overcorrected.

Speaking of the McDonald's tie-in, I use to have all the Batman Forever glass cups they sold.

David Yates directed Harry Potter 5-8 and Crimes of Grindelwald.
Diablo Cody wrote Juno and Jennifer’s Body.
Linda Woolverton wrote Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Lion King (1994), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Maleficent.

Francis Ford Coppola played a role in getting some of the best acting performances ever (Brando, Pacino, De Niro) and some of the worst (Keanu Reeves, Sofia Coppola).

It is one of those cases where the script is a mess, but nothing about him directing it is surprising is what I mean. His directing isn't even the issue, the script is.

I actually like the first movie better than most of the Harry Potter movies, but the sequel is mediocre and very disappointing. It isn't a complete trainwreck though. I would have loved to see Alfonso Cuaron direct all the Harry Potter sequels, because he is a far FAR better director than David Yates.
