When I lived in New Mexico, I was told by two different "farmers" that if a fox gets into a henhouse, they will kill all the chickens and not eat them and that they love to kill. Both people lost all their chickens to foxes. Utter pish. If a fox gets in a henhouse, it will kill the hens, because it is an opportunity. It will then take one dead hen at a time, and bury it's stash, for a later date. That's what canids do. Chickens would normally roost on branches off the ground. If they are penned in to a henhouse and a fox gets in, it will kill then stash to eat later when times are hard. It is solely the hen keepers fault. Use decent biosecurity. Cheers, Father Jack, rescuer of ex battery hens that have the free run of my garden. Never lost one to a fox. When my hens die, I put them out for the foxes to take and eat. Dunno if that’s a good idea. They’ll just be sniffing round your garden more if you do that. May get a live chicken if you’re unlucky. Solution: just have a veg free day and eat the chicken!

I want snow. I like snow. Very rare yer 😥 Just been out cleaning the path again. Got a fair bit here last night and the night before. Must be about 6 to 8 inches in total. Temperature has risen really quickly this morning though so it’s melting. Over 4C here at the moment.

Temperature has risen really quickly this morning though so it’s melting. Over 4C here at the moment. I see Livi - Hamilton is snowed off. |

Given Scotland gets a relatively fair amount of snow, I'm surprised there aren't a few knocking about to clear pitches. |

Still no pictures of the elusive Scottish wildcat The picture of the urban foxes makes me wish people in the U.K. would keep their pet cats indoors. I loves foxes but they are killers, they kill for the pure joy of killing - that is their way (a little like the human animal). Thanks for poatinbg. Foxes don't kill domestic cats. And they don't kill for the 'joy' of killing. What gave you that idea? Like all canids they avoid any unnecessary confrontations. The only mammal where some members seemingly kill for 'fun', other than some sicko humans, is dolphins. Cats are also sick fucks. They think it's cool to leave little animal carcasses at your door step, and I recall having to stop my cat from torturing a little mouse by catching and letting it go over and over again seemingly just for the fun of it. Maybe that's what happens when they don't have to hunt for food, but she hunted for food whenever she wanted to also. |
