Reflections on my roster...
I didn't really have a strategy per se, usually just picked whomever came to mind-- or whomever came to mind earlier and I wrote down on a sticky note. As time went on, I did try to get representation of my favorite properties without devoting myself specifically to that cause. I have a decent selection of Game of Thrones and Star Wars characters, but my Star Trek and LOTR representation leaves something to be desired. I have a Bond (acquired via trade), a Ghostbuster, multiple Sherlocks (and Watsons), two Batmen (I had three but traded one), several X-Men and most (but not all) of the Avengers. I could make an interesting fusion band out of Sinatra, Bowie and LL Cool J.
I was able to snag two of the all time action greats in Stallone and Ford; and with Blade Runner being my favorite film overall, adding Rutger Hauer along with Ford was a personal triumph. I almost ruined the game when I selected Steven Seagal (because everyone wanted him to go undrafted), but the game pressed on nevertheless. I believe I have the record for most guys named Dennis drafted in one day, with three.
If I could do it all over, I would've held onto Bale. If only because the whole point of the trade was to keep Frog's level of enthusiasm at a high; and yet he immediately quit the game after the trade. So it was a wasted effort. Still, I got good value out of the picks I received in return, so I can't complain too much. (As an aside, I'm surprised there wasn't more wheeling and dealing in general throughout the draft, but with a talent pool this big to choose from, I'm sure people were happy with their rosters either way, making trades irrelevant for the most part.)
Sometimes you had someone circled for a while and you were excited to finally get them, other times you just fell into a name you couldn't believe was still available. And of course the mild disappointment of someone snagging a name you were ready to take, but that's the challenge. All in all I'm happy with my roster, though I don't know that it's the best. But I definitely have more Dennises.

When the thread started I didn’t pay attention to it. Then a few days later when it had reached a few pages, I checked it out and thought it would be fun to join in – and it most definitely was! I took it on a day-to-day basis, never thinking of more than two or three names at a time. I tried to think of names that weren’t too obvious, often searching in foreign films or classic films. At one point I was out of ideas and looked for inspiration in old TV shows that I watched as a child or teenager – The Six Million Dollar Man, Charlie’s Angels, Buck Rogers, Starsky and Hutch. Got a few from various Star Trek shows, from Game of Thrones and other more recent favourite TV shows. And whenever possible, I tried to inject a little humour in my posts.
I am pretty happy with my team overall, even though I don’t have any huuuge A-lister action names I think.

Can I pick one more for my roster? Can't say that I've ever heard of her before today but I think I'm in love with Jessica Lucas, from Gotham.

I'm going to run everyone's roster through the Kahukomputer tonight and generate an algorithm that'll thematically connect three actors not chosen with each roster. We really could've gone on forever, but the bookkeeping was killing me. Will it take Ray Winstone away from Orson Swelles and put him on my roster so that I have all of the actors who significantly played Sweeney Todd? I've already got Len Cariou, George Hearn, Johnny Depp, and Ben Kingsley. It's only fitting that I'd get Ray Winstone to complete the set. And maybe Todd Slaughter. I'll trade ya Ray for Daddario.

It was great fun putting together my cocktail crew.
I picked folks I thought would be genuinely fun and interesting to hang out with.
I had others in mind I liked in action films, like Janine Turner from Cliffhanger. But she's a cockwomble as a person herself, and I didn't want her bad vibes stinking up our happy hour.
Cheers Rey for running this event, and to everyone who good naturedly joined in, and made it fun 👏

My brain says that's a good deal. But my... let's say... heart, won't let me make that trade.

Just a final thought before moving on. This was a fun distraction for about week. Great thread. 👍 Regarding my Kahukomputer suggested pick
Tom Sizemore: I was about to pick him not long after Barry Pepper. They both from the same period and in many movies. I did not know about his controversy until you brought it up. Kind of turned me off for picking him. I have heard some Sociologists beginning to sympathize with his behavior. Who knows, maybe someday will become acceptable.
Spencer Tracy: I have him in my mind, but for some reason slipped out. There are still many classic film action role actor that are not picked yet
Raul Julia: One of my favorite lifetime supporting role actor, right along side with John Cazale and Thomas Mitchell. I never thought of him as an action film actor. He might have been in some action role, but I never saw them.
Anyway, thanks for the thread.

He was fantastic in Saving Private Ryan. That dying scene was unforgettable.

About my roster: I was going for as many 80s action stars as possible. The 80s not only had the best action movies but it was the best decade for pop culture. Nothing will ever come close to the awesomeness of 80s' pop culture. Some of the most well known action stars of the 80s were taken but I was able still get pick some decent ones. I really wanted Ralph Macchio but Father Jack declined. This was an enjoyable thread but I think the critieria for what constitutes as an action star was a bit broad. A little restriction on what an action star should be would have made it tougher to choose and a bit more competitive. Anyways, it was a fun thread and I'm glad I participated. And Rey, thanks for keeping things well organized, which made it easy to follow. Yeah the term 'action hero' was definitely stretched beyond its limits in the thread (I know I was guilty of it), and if there were an actual tournament or some prize at stake, I imagine people would've taken a different approach to their roster building. If I had it to do all over again, I would've been more organized about the rules from the outset instead of making things up as I went along. But it was all in good fun, and I think everyone got a kick out of it. Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback. I'm kicking around ideas for a similar topic, maybe in a few months.

I feel as though this is attacking my Evan Stone pick, and I'm compelled to remind you that I have learned and employed more action moves from Evan Stone, sir, than you have from your entire action squad! Good day sir!

Mine's easy... I drafted a bit like fantasy sports - grabbing a slew of best 'next guys up' & before anyone realizes, I've got everyone's glue guys off the board to myself. I like drafting ppl I enjoy following, not once has chalk won a fantasy league I've been in.
Wes' Planet Avengeables Bruce Willis Willem Dafoe Michael Biehn Jim Brown Josh Brolin Robert Mitchum Jason Momoa Olga Kurylenko Nick Nolte Steve Austin

A reminder that I have Chuck Norris, and if even half the things I've heard about him are true, your teams are all toast.

These rosters got ridiculously long by the end. I should have come up with categories, positions, some element or game mechanic to make it more than just a list of names. Ah well, maybe next time. I've actually been kicking around similar ideas in the back of my head lately.
