I don't see the big deal, the black stereotypes in Dumbo are so archaic and outdated, kids today probably wouldn't even understand who so they're supposed to be stereotyping. Hell I didn't even "get" the stereotypes when I watched it as a kid.

I think it would be productive for parents to watch these movies with their kids and explain how/why they're racist. If parents think they're too young to understand, then they should be more active in choosing what their kids watch. In fact, why would someone under 7 have their own profile in the first place? The parents should be the ones putting the movie on.

Eh, they're not attempting to scrub them from wide availability like they justifiably did with Song of the South, so I don't really care.

Somebody who had a 35mm copy of Song of the South gave it to some digital archivists and they did a cleanup of it. So it is preserved.
In the 1980s Song of the South was shown in theaters again. I don't remember Mr. T complaining.

Someone care to explain to me where the racism is in The Jungle Book? Not really what you asked for, but Louie Armstrong was originally supposed to play King Louie, but then the producers realized the idea of a lazy ape being voice by a black man wouldn't go over too well.

It might be counter productive, don't ya think? Just sayin'. Then they will teach the kids to look for racism in everything, i dunno might be bad.

People really just have no idea that Louis Prima was white and Italian and that the character was obviously modeled on him. By the way, this is one of the stupidest, most pandering articles I've ever read. It's stuff like this that lead directly to someone like Trump getting elected.

I don't remember Mr. T complaining. I remember that re-release of Song Of The South very well, I was about 12 at the time. Me and a friend went to go see it, but we were actually more interested in sneaking in another theater to see the re-release of the R-rated Slap Shot. We tried a few times to sneak in but we couldn't. I think we were being watched closely the whole time by the ushers. Ah, childhood memories!

I remember the re-release of Song of the South as well. We had the soundtrack too, might still be at my parents house. It was on vinyl.
Glad I have most of these films on bluray (outside of SOTS). My kids watched Dumbo awhile back and just remarked about how short it was. They didn't even notice or draw a correlation between the crows and black people.
These films literally built Disney, but whatever.

This is pointless and obviously just posturing because most kids are still gonna see these films regardless.

Aspects of those movies mentioned are certainly dated and you wouldn't get away with some of those depictions nowadays, but I find this pretty petty to be honest.
