Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, remake of Bedtime Story. I just edited my OP to include that at the very moment that you replied.

Always (1989) was a remake of A Guy Named Joe (1943).

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, remake of Bedtime Story. It appears that Stanley Shapiro and Paul Henning actually wrote both, though 1 other writer is credited with them on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The Hustle is apparently a remake of Bedtime Story too.

Is it? They are similar, but I don't think of Pale Rider as a remake of Shane.

There are the various adaptations of Heaven Can Wait with different titles. The first is called Here Comes Mr. Jordan and the 70's version is named after the book.
There is the US adaptation of Let the Right One In called Let Me In. There's Nosferatu and Dracula which are differently titled because of the rights issues. I know you weren't thinking of short cartoons but Dough for the Do-Do is a remake of Porky in Wackyland with much of the same footage but colorized.

Pale Rider has the young girl's viewpoint, stranger comes to an endangered community, stranger helps a member take down a tree stump (!), stranger defeats enemies of the community.

The Maltese Falcon (1931) was remade as Satan Met a Lady and then remade again as The Maltese Falcon (1941).
Rec was remade as Quarantine.
The Absent-Minded Professor was remade as Flubber.
Out of the Past was remade as Against All Odds.

Play Rider has the young girl's viewpoint, stranger comes to an endangered community, stranger helps a member take down a tree stump (!), stranger defeats enemies of the community. That would make for an interesting discussion and it bugs me sometimes the word remake being thrown around too loosely. Same with rip-off, I think that is thrown around too loosely as well. I mean if you got down to it, most movies in the past 50 years are rip-offs of or inspired by some other work on some level. For me there are different categories. Loose remake, direct remake, inspired by, rip-off etc. It bugged me when a user was trying to call The Family Man a remake of It's a Wonderful Life for example. That doesn't fly with me. The Family Man is a loose remake/rip-off of Mr. Destiny, which may or may not be inspired by it's a Wonderful Life. Mr. Destiny isn't a rip-off by any means though.

I read about both and now I agree that it is a remake, though "unofficially." I guess it has just been too long since I have seen Pale Rider and also a huge gap between when I watched the 2 movies.

How about Westworld - Jurassic Park?
Hi-tech vacation resort has trouble and people have to fend for themselves.

Substantial similarities with Gunga Din, Kelly's Heroes, and Three Kings. Maybe that recent Spike Lee film too.

How about Westworld - Jurassic Park? Hi-tech vacation resort has trouble and people have to fend for themselves. I hope you are joking with that one. Jurassic Park is merely Crichton BORROWING from himself. They are similar, but far too different. That is like saying Sudden Death is a remake of Die Hard.
