My husband needs a specific support in his arch. New balance has it the cheapest. So he goes to a store in the mall. They are like 200/pair I live in a pair of soft, stretchy Brooks sneakers with orthotic inserts, lol My, how times have changed.

I don't understand . does one go to a podiatrist? I walk on the outside of my feet. I know I need them. thanks autumn!

I’m a cheap bastard...  I think this is the equivalent of our 'PayLess shoe source' which went out of business. I often bought shoes there. I applaud you stamm! we are frugal not cheap. lol

You must have the a 'regular' foot, I have to try on several pairs. Sometimes I am a 7 , others up to an 8. kind of depends on width , too. Wish I could just buy a 7 and know it would fit.

I walk on the outside of my feet. I know I need them. thanks autumn! My insurance covers me going to an orthotist. They fit my foot into these little blue foam boxes, one for each foot. They get custom made, and they decide what materials to put in, and whether to make them full length (I recommend that) or 3/4. I've worn them for many years, in part because I broke my foot as a child, but was determined to be a rapscallion and not sit still. I swear by them.

These "over the counter" inserts are not all created equal. Most of them squish down and flatten and don't provide substantial arch support or have an adequate heel cup.  This exact brand only. Superfeet. The green ones, and full-length. They're $49.99 and worth every penny. Custom-made orthotics can run around $800 or even more if you're paying cash, but then again, they're very specific for each person, and made to order for each foot to correct any imbalances. But ^these^ are terrific alternatives. Inexpensive and they last.

About 20 years ago, I jettisoned all high heels ... I want to live. Since then I have to admit that I have slightly overdone buying pairs of "cute" flats, and cushion-soled shoes.
I say "overdone," because I spend 90% of my waking hours in New Balance cross trainers. I have to buy those online, because 6 1/2 is a nearly-impossible size to find in stores, around here.
The other shoes that I have bought aren't fancy. I have purchased a few at Sketchers. I found some at Payless. And, when Macy's closed at my favorite mall, I got a great buy for 3 pairs of "fancy" shoes.
I think I'm set, for life.

Online or if they’re on sale at a bricks-and-mortar shop. If I see a good bargain on shoes I’ll sometimes go for it even if I don’t need them. I now have about 15 pairs I’ve never worn. Wow! That's like me, but not quite that many

I can't believe what I used to spend to fill shelves full of shoes in my 20's...sling-backs, pumps, round toe, kitten heels, 4" heels, 6" heels, wedges, flats, open-toe, flip flops, sandals, strappy heels, buckle boots, work boots, gym sneakers, hiking boots, walking shoes, leather, patent leather, work heels, dress heels, mules, slip-ons, platforms, thigh-high boots, riding boots, barn boots,.... And of course, if I found a pair of shoes I liked, I had to have them in every shade and fabric they came in. Eeek!  Quite the fashionista!
