I have a Prius 2006. It has been an absolute darling of a car - its my first and only car I ever had and I will have it until it dies in a way that doesn't make sense to repair. Hoping its not now yet. I take it for oil and filter changes and tire checks regularly per the book, and only have my first problem with the car now: it seems the 12v battery is dying on me. I mean, I have not changed it ever and I bought it in 2012 so its starting its 9th year running on the same battery which is pretty amazing, so I guess its time to change it, since it now keeps dying on me every few days.
My question for other Prius owners is: if you changed your 12v battery, did you get the Prius preferred AMG (Absorbed Glass Mat) type of battery or did you go with the cheaper Lead Acid? From what I read the LA should work fine just not last as longer. Am I right?
If I go with the AMG I am looking at 250 to 300 so… of course if there is a cheaper option you think would work, do let me know please.
(I have checked the battery numbers per the drivers manual and it does seem to be in decline so I think it is time)

Replace the 12v with 2 9v and you can get 50% more power out of it. No need to thank me.
