I would’ve preferred someone a little more believable as an action hero. As cliche as it sounds, someone like Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp would’ve been good. Acting chops to pull off the early stuff, but physical and comedic enough for the later action/screwball elements. If they really wanted to get wild, maybe even Mel Gibson. Sounds ridiculous at first, but he’s proven himself in action-comedies and as an all around stellar dramatic actor. Then again, not sure Spielberg and Gibson would get along too well... What about Cary Elwes? (Robin Hood Men in Tights and Princess Bride?) plus he’s a Brit. I could see it. Fits his whole bit around that time.

This movie is great. I mean sure, it's heavily flawed, cliche, and a product of it's time, but it's still great. The score is amazing, Dustin Hoffman is great, and of course it's the only Pan film with Rufio! The film as a whole is definitely better than it probably has any right to be.
