Been downhill for years. They can't cover sports on a daily basis (never could) but their strength was the long articles, the ones on the last few pages. I think The Athletic stole that, they do it much better. When I was a teenager-early 20's I would have thought it unimaginable to not have the latest copies of Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News and Baseball American lying around. And the preview magazines, Street & Smith, Athlon and TSN. Oh well... si showed up every thursday in the mail i recall. i was subscribed to The National Sports Daily as a kid.

I've heard much about The National. Wasn't it the first, and last, to try daily print sports journalism? I suppose it helped guide sports websites & how they launched.
