The chick at the pharmacy called me Amanda by mistake. I said I like that better than my actual name. I'm going to go back to my maiden name this year when my divorce is finalized. I can't wait, because I'm sick of spelling my last name and my maiden name is a very common, easy one like Smith.

Having the same last name of my dad was cringe

Now 'Karen ' has a bad reputation so guess I'm glad I wasn't.

I would have hated it if I was a Michael or Matt, or Chris

But now I love it Parents used to go with popular names now coming up with your own name is the thing. I came up with my own name, I'll be damned if I let my dad decide my name

I always wished my parents had used English spellings for my first and middle name instead of Spanish. It would have saved me a lot of trouble with people mispronouncing my name, assuming I spoke Spanish (I understand some words and phrases, but not much), etc. The funny thing is that my parents NEVER called me by the Spanish version of my name, but always by the English one.

I've always liked my name Julia, but if I could change it, I've always been fond of the name Bianca.

I changed mine legally when I got married.
My first name was okay, but I didn't like my middle name - together, they sounded like I was a perpetual child in patent leather shoes and white socks.
So, when I married, I used my first name, then my maiden name, then my husband's name. The last name is hard to spell, but I keep it in remembrance of my late husband.

i also hated my chinese birth name because english speakers couldn't pronounce it. now i use it on social media to distinguish myself from other people with my first and last name.
and i hated my surname because of the jokes that can be made from it.

No.
I'm named after a very true hero of mine - my father.
Of course, I get all variations of Trevor - namely Taylor, Tyler, Travis...even one time, Charlie.

I think it would occasionally come in handy if my first name was "Dr."

My name is one of those that lends itself to almost countless nicknames. And, the international spelling/pronunciation is said to have 50 "plus," variations. A couple of nicknames were bestowed upon me, by family, when I was very little. And, over the years, I've tapped into others, depending on the whim-of-age, or other circumstances. In college, at "orientation," someone asked me my name. A very short, one syllable name came out of my mouth, and has stuck. Someone asked me if that experience threw me into an "identity crisis." It hasn't. I like to think that it has shown me to be adaptable. BTW, my parents told me that when I was about 4, I demanded to be called "Jane."
