David Bowie for example wrote Golden years for Elvis, but performed it for himself as well.

Feels Like I'm in Love is a song recorded by Scottish singer Kelly Marie. It was a number-one hit on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in September 1980. Written by Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry, the song was originally intended for Elvis Presley who recorded it in 1977 but he died before it was released.

I've read that Neil Young wrote "Powderfinger" for Lynyrd Skynyrd to record, kind of as a peace offering for the whole "Sweet Home Alabama" thing, but the Skynyrd plane crash happened before Neil could offer them the song.

"Blue" was meant for Patsy Cline, but since she never got to sing it, LeAnn Rimes made it famous for her.
God bless you and LeAnn always!!!
Holly (a day one fan of her)

Not quite written for her, but Patsy Cline recorded and released Crazy in 1961 before Willie released his version on his 1962 album.

I was literally just going to mention this one as it was the first one that came to my mind.
Great minds think alike!

Although What’s Love Got To Do With It? is known as a Tina Turner tune it was rejected by a number of singers including Cliff Richard before performed by Eurovision winners Bucks Fizz as a demo but never released. Someone heard the demo, thought it would be a good song for Tina Turner and the rest is history.

Smokey Robinson (et al) wrote Doggone for the Temptations. They rejected it and Marvin Gaye did well with it. It was Motown's first #1 and first million seller.

Country singer/songwriter Eddie Rabbit wrote "Kentucky Rain" for himself but thought (correctly) that it would do better on a release by Elvis. It reached #16 on the Billboard Top 40 in February 1970 getting Elvis off to a good start with his first hit of the decade which saw 22 of his other records make the chart.

Bruce Springsteen wrote "Fire" for Elvis to record. But Presley died before he got the demo.
