The Baseball Hall Of Fame population will remain frozen in 2021 for the first time since 1960. Only three players got over 50% of the ballots: Curt Shilling got the highest total. Shilling, of course, is an extreme right-wing MAGA who supports the January 6 insurrectionists. In a snit at the snub, he wrote the Hall requesting he not be considered for next year, which would have been his 10th and last opportunity for selection.
"I'll defer to the veterans committee and men whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player," he wrote.
The other two players to get above 50% were Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, both tainted by their violations during the steroid era.
