Hopefully, he’s okay. But maybe after 20 years, he realized no one was reading his poems.

I always enjoyed his poems. Hope he comes back. I guess I'm in the minority. I found his "poetry" to be random carriage returns thrown in with poorly punctuated, off-topic drivel. I rarely read any thread he started.

Very similar to Liberal Left Anti-Trump emotion drivel.

His name made me wanna go hang out at the docks and pick up a drunken sailor. Precisely. I have been familiar with the phrase "the fleet's in" since a teenager, when a fellow equestrian named his mare (female horse) that, because she was a bit of a hussy. So I got the reference to the fleet, and started reading what he wrote. I liked that he wasn't shy about pointing a finger at religion. When I first started on this board, I considered religion a disease; now, I think it is more of a symptom of the disease, which is our human tendency to fear the 'other' and stay in 'tribes'. It's part of our evolution, and I doubt we will ever evolve past it. But he phrased it in ways that I had never thought of, and how religion could lead to gross injustices. And, though I am a straight, old white woman, the references to gay sex never bothered me, as I worked with and hung out with a number of gay men, some years back. I feel safe in the presence of gay men, and was used to the nature of conversation. Some of the kindest, caring people in my past were gay men. So I hope he is still around, maybe just taking a break while the USA focusses more on evil politicians and conspiracy theories, and a pandemic that has been mismanaged in this country. I haven't posted much on the RFS board, either - I've been too pissed about politics being merged with evangelical nutters. And so I stuck to the Politics board. Hopefully, thefleetsin will be back!

Well I'm an atheist as well. However, I think the angry sarcastic attitude of atheists like thefleetsin is irrational. Religion was created by man for a very practical purpose - to explain life and the universe.
Even with science none of us really know how this all began. Personally I have no anger at this imaginary god. I just try to look at it rationally without emotion. thefleetsin always acted like he was ranting against some imaginary being. It's such a waste.
Religion has brought some very good things to the world - like respect for the value life, and good works and charity. I really detest butthurt angry little atheists.

Clearly you were never damaged personally by religion - I was. And I know others who were. And in college, I studied art history (Italian Renaissance and Far Eastern) and saw pictures of the atrocities committed in the name of religion. Not just Christianity, in Hinduism, Islam, etc. Wars fought over whose invisible friend is the correct invisible friend. From my perspective, it has caused more damage than good. I am an agnostic atheist, yet I still perform acts of charity, and have so much respect for life that I don't eat meat, and I bottle-feed tiny abandoned motherless kittens until they are old enough to be adopted. I have volunteered my entire adult life to help others less fortunate than myself, and those who are abused or abandoned, and it had nothing to do with god, but with the simple ethics of the Golden Rule. I'm not 'butthurt', I just base my life on facts rather than faith.

I'm not 'butthurt', I just base my life on facts rather than faith. But you are speaking of problems related to humanity and power - not just religion. Atheist systems like Communism and fascism have been just as brutal and committed countless atrocities.
Few wars in history have been motivated by religion. Did the Roman Empire conquer the known world for Jupiter? No, for all practical purposes the Romans were irreligious. Genghis Khan killed millions without any reference to god. The power of the elite which oppresses the poor has never been based on religion. Religion is just often used as an excuse to cover their inherent human greed.
I also grew up gay in a homophobic world. So yeah, I was "damaged" by Leviticus. But it's interesting to note that there is plenty of homophobia among people who could care less about god. Is all the gay bashing and hate against gays in our society carried out by theists? No, those people are not church goers, I guarantee you. The atheists in China throw homosexuals in concentration camps.

As I said in a previous post, "When I first started on this board, I considered religion a disease; now, I think it is more of a symptom of the disease, which is our human tendency to fear the 'other' and stay in 'tribes'. It's part of our evolution, and I doubt we will ever evolve past it." I never said politics or ideology weren't damaging, too... again, basic human nature, fear of 'other', money, power, control, corruption. Not all because of religion, but religion has a hand in it. Our idiot ex-president is about as unreligious a guy as one could find, but the Evangelicals vote for him because he is against abortion. They further his corrupt agenda, thinking it will save babies' lives and that is worth tolerating his other 'flaws'. If the Senate does not convict his sorry ass, I am going to be seriously pissed. He wants this country to be an aristocracy, not a democratic republic, so he can suppress anyone, of any stripe, that goes against him.

a heart felt an epiphany
what was thought to be a heart feeling an epiphany turned out to be a new computer where i now longer had imdb on my start up you see.
and here you thought i was hating on you? those feelings i reserve for a certain particular incarcerated few who flat out refuse to walk with me on waters beyond the seas of tattletales fidgeting in pews.
sjw 02/11/2020 inspired at this very moment in time by me being either incredibly lazy in my retirement or utterly computer illiterate.
from the 'beauty series' of poems

I hate new computers, new programs, the endless updating of my PC... I'm just glad you are back and okay! Enjoy being lazy in your retirement! I felt guilty for some time in mine, because I wasn't being productive enough. Thankfully, I got past it...

Since then I've felt just fine!
