Always loved this Swans cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart, which surely is way more "upbeat" than the original, and most of the cover versions I have stumbled upon.
Were almost a bit disappointed, when I first realized that this fast paced song, was not an original Nirvana cut, but instead an Devo song. That was of course, before I had heard anything from them, but still, I think the Nirvana version is up there, as one of the better cover versions they did.
The early days of The Human League, put out some stunning covers, everything from Iggy Pop to glitter and glam rock, but I thought they provided their finest moment, not only as a cover release but of everything they made during the late 70s, with the terrific icy cold futuristic synth sounds of their updated attempt on the Righteous Brothers classic cut, You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

I much prefer Jose Feliciano's slow, sexy cover version of "Light My Fire" to the Doors' version, with Jim Morrison's zombified vocals. The best thing about the Doors' version is Ray Manzarek on keyboard.
Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66's cover of "The Fool on the Hill" is more enjoyable and lively than the Beatles' forgettable version.
The same goes for Earth, Wind and Fire's cover of the Beatles' "Got to Get You into My Life."

Hilarious parody of the norwegian 1995 Melody Grand Prix winner Nocturne by Secret Garden. I believe the parody even became a bit of a hit single of a while, and it seemed like these scandinavian hillbilly/redneck groups enjoyed their heyday, as in Norway we had Dusty Cowshit, while Sweden delivered maybe the bigger success with Rednex.
Another classic cover song. One that got so popular on MTV (or so I remember it) that as a kid, I was sure Oasis actually covered this 60s group called The Mike Flowers Pops, not the other way around. Has a Austin Powers meets the Dukes of Stratosphear swagger about it, but have not seen or heard for a very long time, but always brings a huge smile to my face, whenever it does.

Another norwegian "classic" cover, this time by Hurra Torpedo and where the "lucky" victim were that of Bonnie Tyler and her 1980s hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart. I remember seeing a documentary of these guys, from a trip to America, and always laughed hard when Kristopher Schau (the drummer) met up with Steven Seagal on tour, and said in norwegian, something like:
"Takk, for alle drittfilmene du har gjort!" or "Thanks, for all the crappy films you have made!"

Yeah it is a great song. I do play bass guitar, but in this particular band there were plenty of members. So for that song I just did the lead vocals.

I have a couple.
New Order was always trash so it wasn't hard to improve upon them.
An overrated Daft Punk song got turned into a masterpiece by the REAL robot band.
