Out on the farm we didn't have the option Were you able to click on the receiver a few times and make your own phone ring? i don't know. lol I didn't try. But we had our own code to call ourselves. I think it was 11211 but I'm not sure.

As others have said, 10 digit phone numbers have been the norm for quite a while.

Too many people, not enough numbers. Usually the requirement for dialing the area code with local numbers coincides with the necessity for an additional area code for that area.
