After watching a review of the movie "Music", which despite a Golden Globe nomination is being panned for it's portrayal of an autistic girl, I was trying to think of movies with portrayals of intellectually disabled characters that weren't terrible. Off the top of my head I could think of two: Rain Man and Forrest Gump.

The movie got negative reviews, but Sean Penn got critical acclaim for I Am Sam.

Charly - Cliff Robertson won an Oscar for it.
Judgment At Nuremberg – Montgomery Clift gives a powerful performance as a man of limited intelligence who was sterilized by the Third Reich.

Scarecrow (1973) with Al Pacino and Gene Hackman were a great little gem, not seen for years but surely one that I must go back and re-watch.
Defendor (2009) with Woody Harrelson was a surprisingly fun and charming crime-adventure comedy, that I enjoyed along with Super (2010), much more, than the similar themed Kick-Ass (2010).

I thought Leonardo DiCaprio gave an excellent performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"
By far his best performance, imo.

I thought Leonardo DiCaprio gave an excellent performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" By far his best performance, imo. I enjoy the entire movie, except for the parts with Mary Steenburgen. I never really liked her much and don’t like that subplot part of the movie.

I forgot about that movie. I remember seeing that in the theaters on the same night I watched Scream.
