I feel bad for everyone suffering from the cold temperatures.
So sorry to hear this news, WKM. I worried about our outside cats. I have good spots made for them to sleep. Sometimes they use them, sometimes not. I was really afraid of them freezing to death, but they all survived over a week of extreme temperatures. I made sure to feed them extra to keep up their strength and that may have helped. The chickens stayed the entire time inside their coop and although I lost one, all of the others survived. I don't know if she froze or if something else was wrong with her. She was one of my younger hens.
We're supposed to hit almost 70F this afternoon, after a -35 wind chill last week. Crazy!! The snow all melted off yesterday, with a few icy spots left on the drive on the north side of the house. They should melt this afternoon. It's a real muddy mess out there now, but the wind is supposed to blow today too and that should help to dry things up.
Hope Texas is back to 'normal' soon. What a terrible experience for everyone there. We lost water pressure this week and had a plumber out. We had no leaks and didn't think Mom did either. He came back again yesterday to do some more checking and found a broken pipe in her crawlspace under the house. He's coming back this afternoon to fix it. I feel sorry for him having to be working in that cramped space. I makes me claustrophobic just thinking about it!!
