Maybe Belladonna of Sadness for supernatural horror and erotica. The thing is that there are a lot of animated films for kids that are just as horrific in their own way as ones aimed at adults. Barefoot Gen is probably aimed at all audiences, at least in Japan, but there is a nuclear explosion with people being vaporized. For sheer graphic violence I'd have to say Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge for its interior views of violence in vivid anatomical detail. Aside from those, there's animated films that take place in hell like Lady Death and Dante's Inferno. Hells, the anime, also takes place in a sort of hell but the most extreme thing about that movie is how it seems to reinvent itself artistically in every shot. I could talk about very artistic and eccentric films but that doesn't exclude children from the audience so I'll leave it at that.

I don't really appreciate "extreme" but I do like "bleak".

I don't really appreciate "extreme" but I do like "bleak". Yeah, the extreme stuff, is not something I often visit or get much out of, and since I am a sucker for the more feel-good themed animated films, I guess that kind of "entertainment" is just not my kind of films. However, I still do, every now and then, get the urge to dive into some depressing and bleak films as well. Not sure if you have seen the danish animated film, Princess (2006). That one really got to me when I first saw it, maybe even more, because of the lousy way the norwegian artwork had it out, as some kind of a straight-forward "romantic" action-adventure, which is surely is not.

That certainly looks interesting. The idea of removing all of the mother’s material makes it seem a bit dated but it still applies in an age where people download and keep stuff when others would rather it disappeared.

Devilman Volume 3: Devilman Apocalypse is probably among the most violent and gore I saw. There is no body part that isn't punched, bitten or ripped from his victims.
