Love it, and I don't think it's boring. I think The Godfather is boring.

I do think it does get draggy in parts but inspite of that, and also inspite of the fact I'm not really a sci-fi fan to begin with, I did enjoy 2001. It is quite the visual spectacle, and the scenes with HAL were quite intense.

I never lost interest but neither did I find myself intrigued. And even when all the Nietzschean stuff is comprehended, there's not that much to it. 6/10 I agree with this. Visually it's striking but I'm not that interested in viewing it again. I've seen it a few times but I'm okay without seeing it again.

Boring? No.
I was a teenager when I saw it in 1968. I was drawn in by the visuals and shaking my head in confusion at the same time. It took a few more years on the march to maturity to fully understand and appreciate it as a groundbreaking achievement. You need only look at science fiction prior to 2001, A Space Odyssey and after to see its influence on the genre.
I've sat through marathon viewings of Lonesome Dove, Rome and I Claudius, to name a few epics. 2001, A Space Odyssey is sonic, compared to those extravaganzas.

It used to be in my top 10. It can be boring, but it does contribute to the plot.

No, not at all. As just about everyone else has said, it's slow moving but that doesn't automatically equal boring. One of my all time favorites, probably Top 10.

Yes. Fell asleep watching it. My husband likes it, but he prefers 2010.

It defines "boring". Psychiatrists actually use this otherwise useless waste of celluloid to cure people of Insomnia. The people claiming to like it, they all just use it to make their friends fall asleep so they can rob their friends.

Itanreally boring. It looks like it was shot in slow motion but it actually wasn't. The only thing funny about it is how desperately Kubrickons cling to it, simply because a) they either saw it when it first came out and juat can't let go, or b) they're trying to be cool film guys, or both
Like that woman walking up the wall carrying the serving tray for 5 minites? I mean really? Is that supposed to be cool?

Only if you find the dawn of mankind boring, or space exploration boring, or interaction between AI and humans boring, or first contact with an alien race boring. So things do happen in the movie. A slow pace in and of itself is not boring.

Greatest movie villain in film history, HAL 9000. And one of the greatest casting decisions in history. Douglas Rain's voice is perfection. Been too easy to give HAL an evil voice. That damn calm voice. And just the red dot.
"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
"Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over"

It is boring, people have convinced themselves it isnt. When you have a camera shot fixated on the same object for minutes that is boring.
Interstellar is the better sci fi movie and will surpass 2001s legacy in 50 years.

Or perhaps not everyone appreciates art in the same way or for the same reasons as you. There were aspects of Interstellar I liked, but it felt like Hallmark's 2001.

Not for me. I just watched it around December last year and I think it's better than ever. It is a movie, in my opinion, the reveals more and more with multiple viewings.
Even last time, I found myself reading things on the walls and screens, because I know I can. Immersion to that degree is Stanley Kubrick's version of going the extra mile.
