In 2013, Brattin sponsored legislation that would afford equal treatment in textbooks for intelligent design and evolution.[2]



In January 2017, Brattin proposed a bill to end tenure in public universities in Missouri.[3]

The bill would also "require public colleges to publish estimated costs of degrees, employment opportunities expected for graduates, average salaries of previous graduates, and a summary of the job market, among other things."[3]



In 2017, Brattin made a statement on the Missouri House floor that

"When you look at the tenets of religion, of the Bible, of the Qur’an, of other religions, there is a distinction between homosexuality and just being a human being." [6]

In February 2015, Brattin introduced Missouri House Bill 813,[7] reading "A recipient of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits shall not use such benefits to purchase cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood, or steak."[8]

In 2015, in response to a protest by the University of Missouri football team related to campus discrimination, Brattin proposed a bill that would strip a college athlete of their scholarship if the athlete "calls, incites, supports or participates in any strike or concerted refusal to play a scheduled game."[9]

Earlier this week, Rick Brattin, a member of the Missouri state legislature (another guy who came on the scene in the 2010 Tea Party Wave) who with one viral news story, almost jumped instantly all the way to the front of the CSGOPOTD queue when he submitted a poorly written bill for floor discussion that would require pregnant mothers seeking an abortion to first secure the consent of the father that conceived the baby. Now, of course this might prove difficult in a “one night stand” scenario, where they man has up and blown town. But as outraged critics pointed out, “What happens when it’s a mother pregnant with a rapist’s baby?”



Well, have no fear, Brattin assured everyone that they would be able to submit for an exception to the law if they were raped. But only if they were LEGITIMATELY RAPED, of course, and it could be proven that they were (again, with legal jurisprudence, there’s no guarantee a rapist’s guilt would be guaranteed to be proven during the first trimester). Critics were still picking their jaws up off the floor after just the idea of what the bill would be, but then he went full-on Todd Akin with the “legitimate rape” thing. So the media had to go, “Seriously? You want to echo Todd Akin on this?”



But Brattin assured everyone that unlike Akin, he was using the term properly, and not in an incorrect manner. At this point, I don’t know how reporters didn’t ask, “ARE YOU TROLLING US RIGHT NOW?”



As grotesque of a stance on women’s rights as this is… a total shot across the bow in the “War on Women” by Brattin… believe it or not, it’s not the only insane thing he’s done as a legislator.


Through most of 2014, he has made noise trying to get people behind a movement to impeach Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon. Now, if you were guessing what Nixon might not have handled well, you would think that it would be criticism over the Ferguson and St. Louis Sheriff’s Department, regarding the shooting of Michael Brown, and their escalation of violence against the crowds of protestors who assembled in its wake, right? Well, you’d be wrong.

Brattin took umbrage with Gov. Nixon even prior to the shooting, because he didn’t like that he actually policed citizens regarding open carry gun laws properly. And that’s not a one-off thing, either. Because prior to his abortion bill, Brattin was trying to submit a bill in the Missouri House that was attempting to nullify federal gun laws.Nothing like loving guns more than your own recollection of how pushing the tenth amendment brought about the American Civil War, eh?



Rounding out Dave Brattin’s bedlam resume, he wants intelligent design and “destiny” taught in schools to get it equal representation in science books to evolution, and in light of botched executions taking place due to a lack of phenobarbital for the lethal injections, Brattin’s solution is to go back to the good old days and bring in firing squads to riddle death row inmates full of lead as humanely as possible.
