I wasn't really interested. I thought it was going to be like the "Lethal Weapon" movies. It wasn't that bad. But it was still bad.
This is a stupid movie. Yes, it has lots of action. But the characters are comically cliche. (The police sergeant is a ridiculous caricature of a clueless cop. I thought I was watching a comedy.) The dialogue is thoughtlessly cliche.
The music is good. But "Shadow in the Cloud", "Ava" and "Miss Meadows" are better action movies.
Bruce Willis is the best thing in this movie. And that ain't saying much.
Ridiculous and cliche.
I gave it a 4 out of 10 at the old IMDb.
What do you think?

The original from 1988?
It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

I watched Die Hard at the theater a couple of weeks before Christmas, so glad I did. The chess match between McClane and Gruber is what I loved.
9/10, one the best movies ever, right or wrong, most movies in the action genre have been compared to ever since

I guess the impact of seeing it for the first time now isn't nearly as much as that of seeing it earlier in life. However, I respect your stance.

Die Hard - 9/10 minimum
Ava - you're joking.....2/10.....so so dumb, almost offensively so..... cliche characters, waste of a good cast.

Die Hard - 9/10 minimum Ava - you're joking.....2/10.....so so dumb, almost offensively so..... cliche characters, waste of a good cast. There was nobody in Ava as stupid and silly as the Deputy Chief Dwayne T. Robinson character in Die Hard. The Hans Gruber character in Die Hard is just a less funny version of Doctor Evil in The Spy Who Shagged Me. The chatacters in Die Hard are just cliche characters. Maybe back in the 1988 it was fresh and new. But in the least, it hasn't held up well over time.

At first, I was a bit disappointed by all the changes made, but eventually I learned to enjoy the film as its own, separate thing. I actually re-read the original novel again for about the third or fourth time, about a month ago, but it's been several years since I've seen the film.

It's no secret lots of people love this movie. Maybe I was expecting too much. I've noticed (at least for me and a few others I know) that if you didn't grow up with a movie and try to watch it later as an adult, you tend not to be interested in it. It will seem old and just a product of it's time. I have friends who didn't see The Goonies until they were older and they hated it.
Maybe that's not what's going on with you but I would suggest watching Die Hard with a Vengeance followed by Live Free or Die Hard. The more modern feel might connect with you better.

Who knew that dude from Moonlighting was such a badass? I still can't believe they gave him $5 million for it (imagine an actor making $5 whole million for a movie!) but it paid off. He brought a lot of humor and relatability to the role, and it was refreshing to see an action hero who's not roided out and invulnerable. I expect this Willis guy will be delivering charismatic performances for decades.
Newcomer Alan Rickman was even better as the villain. Perfect mix of funny and menacing.
Overall, great action film. Btw, did y'all hear the Beetlejuice guy is making a Batman movie? I hope it's serious like the current comics.
