Who knew that dude from Moonlighting was such a badass? I still can't believe they gave him $5 million for it (imagine an actor making $5 whole million for a movie!) but it paid off. He brought a lot of humor and relatability to the role, and it was refreshing to see an action here who's not roided out and invulnerable. I expect this Willis guy will be delivering charismatic performances for decades. Newcomer Alan Rickman was even better as the villain. Perfect mix of funny and menacing. Overall, great action film. Btw, did y'all hear the Beetlejuice guy is making a Batman movie? I hope it's serious like the current comics. Please don't tell me you're one of those that confuses keeping fit and going to the gym regularly and showing progress physically with being "roided out" or on steroids.

Please don't tell me you think Arnie and Sly were natty. So you are one of those. I always assumed from your posts I don't know why that you worked out too it was just a vibe I got from you. And you being Arnie and Sly's dietitian too, wow, you're full of surprises today.

I usually don't hand this one out too quickly without a decent knowledge of one's posting history. However, this is just so bad and so blatant, I have no choice. Here's your theme song, sing along now!

There's a lot to love about the original.
If I had to make a choice right this minute, though, more in the mood to watch one of the "Die Hard on a __________" knockoffs.

Hasn't held up with time? HELL NO, its a timeless classic and one of the greatest action movies for good reasons.
Leave this movie to people with ACTUAL standards and stick to your marvel stuff! this was back when adult action films ruled.

Why is a thread about an 1988 movie here?

This has every ingredient of a troll thread yet it might not be one. The weirdness of movieliker...

I wasn't really interested. I thought it was going to be like the "Lethal Weapon" movies. It wasn't that bad. But it was still bad. This is a stupid movie. Yes, it has lots of action. But the characters are comically cliche. (The police sergeant is a ridiculous caricature of a clueless cop. I thought I was watching a comedy.) The dialogue is thoughtlessly cliche. The music is good. But "Shadow in the Cloud", "Ava" and "Miss Meadows" are better action movies. Bruce Willis is the best thing in this movie. And that ain't saying much. Ridiculous and cliche. I gave it a 4 out of 10 at the old IMDb. What do you think? I viewed Die Hard twice in the theater around New Year's Day, 2019—my first screenings of this famous film. (I saw the last [?] sequel, A Good Day to Die Hard, in February 2013, only because Lincoln [which I had already seen twice] was sold out.) I would not consider the original Die Hard "ridiculous" and "clichéd," and one must consider that this movie helped create many of the clichés of its genre (the modern urban action movie) or subgenre. In other words, it may seem clichéd when viewed retroactively, but when placed in a proper historical context, it would not necessarily appear that way at all. And the movie is intended to be tongue-in-cheek, so it is supposed to play in a broadly comedic manner, hence making it less "ridiculous." The problem is that Die Hard is tonally inconsistent. That tongue-in-cheek manner sometimes veers into outright parody (both in terms of the filmmaking and Willis' performance), which does not necessarily seem to have been the filmmakers' intent (or that of Willis). And then there are moments and scenes that swerve in the other direction, toward sentimental earnestness that definitely fails to fit with the movie's ostensible tone. In other words, there is a vision here, but it is not as crisp and consistent as it should be. Thus I deem Die Hard "mediocre." Audiences did not seem to mind this tonal inconsistency, though, as they made Die Hard the seventh-highest-grossing domestic release of 1988. "Domestic Box Office For 1988"
