Yeah from the trailer it did look like it could easily have been a movie.

It's basically a six hour action movie with an A list cast. I wouldn't be surprised if the budget was through the roof.

Yeah no shit they said this like right off the bat that these MCU TV shows were going to have MCU movie level budgets for the seasons, Wandavision supposedly cost atleast $200m for the season I heard, so shouldn't be a shock to anyone that F&WS will be following along that line.

not a wise investment, does Marvel sell as much merchandise as Star Wars to offset costs In 2018 they sold within $130m as much as SW, the two combined sold about $3.8b in merch, so yeah they shit a metric fuck ton of merch. Plus it's also content for their service, which keeps customers coming back, even if all it does is maintain their current subscriber base that means the say $200m in cost to produce these shows, it's offset by just over 1/3 of their monthly subscribers, 2 months of Disney +'s subscriber count pays for an entire year of Wandavision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, Mandalorian, the Obi Wan show, Moon Knight and Cassian Andor series...lucky bastards.

What is amazing about that is SOLO was the only Star Wars movie in 2018 and it was a massive bomb

What is amazing about that is SOLO was the only Star Wars movie in 2018 and it was a massive bomb Not really, TLJ despite being divisive was still a massive release right at the tail end of 2017 as such that would naturally bleed over into 2018, and Solo being released so close to TLJ and so early in the year would have had less impact in the X-Mas toy sales anyway, plus not like SW or Marvel or DC for that matter are reliant on new releases to push their merch, Batman for instance became way more popular and profitable merch wise during the DCEU phase than he was during the Nolan trilogy, despite them being the more widely beloved and bigger hit films.
