In what movie does a character have the words “love” and “hate” tattooed on his knuckles? I could swear it was Robert de Niro in ‘Cape Fear’ but I just watched the movie and, while his character does have extensive tattoos on his torso and arms, there aren’t any on his hands.

Robert Mitchum in The Night of the Hunter springs to mind - there's probably more, but that must be one of the most famous
You were close with Cape Fear though - Mitchum was in both versions!

Years later, Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn) also displayed the words on his knuckles in Do the Right Thing and recited a similar tale about the two being in a constant struggle.

That's a real Mandela situation--I thought for sure it was Cape Fear.
