I voted Point Break, Under Siege, and Predator 2...not sure if that's harmful to my reputation as a lover of art or not. Regardless, I love all three of those films, still great to this day.

Well, the question is about his performances not his movies. True enough...but both his performances and the movies that showcase them are great.

Damn, with so many fun and enjoyable Busey appearances/roles to choose from, there should have been at least a few more selections added, like 5 or 6, or more. But hey, that is just how I feel and I gotta respect that the OP has set a limit to a total of 3 titles. Still, kind of hard to leave out so many favorites, but having just recently "stumbled" upon the hilarious Bulletproof (1988), I gotta include that one among my top 3, as I loved seeing Busey kick ass and taking names as the heroic action lead, rather than being the colorful bad guy:
01. The Buddy Holly Story (1978) 02. Silver Bullet (1985) 03. Bulletproof (1988)

I usually list that as an option.

Yeah, I kind of understand that, as he must have made quite a few guest appearances over the years, in a whole lot of most likely not so impressive video releases, DTV/VOD and so on. But if you have not seen Bulletproof (1988), and enjoy Busey and his acting, then that one is a hell of a lot of fun, and I was suprised to see how few votes/ratings it had going, on IMDb. Might not be a "classic" among most 80s action fans, but for any fans of Gary or just ridiculous and over-the-top action films of that period, that one is a must see.

Your taste is different than mine though. For example, I dislike Commando and I noticed it is your favorite movie of 1985. I say that as fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I also don't care for Total Recall. You could say I am not too much of a fan of the ridiculous OTT action movies of the 1980's. I am a fan of many of the ridiculous OTT action movies of the 1990's though, like Face/Off, Con Air, The Rock, True Lies, Last Action Hero, Eraser, Escape from L.A., The Last Boy Scout, Bad Boys etc. I am very picky when it comes to genre movies.

I fully respect that your are picky and careful about those titles you treasure, and those you don't. But looking at all those great action films of the 90s, I would have to say that our taste is not that different, at least when it comes to 90s action films in general, as most of the ones you bring up (minus Escape from L.A., that one I never felt the same love or joy from seeing, as with the original one) Last Action hero, The Last Boy Scout, Bad Boys, Con Air, Face/Off and The Rock are all what I consider to be classics of that era, and most of them lies within the 8/10-10/10 rating scale. But in my "defense" of Commando. That one I guess, even if it is one of the most ridiculous and over-the-top actions films, maybe of all time. It just has a certain b-movie look and feel to it, where most of the 90s action titles mentioned, surely all come with a more dramatic or serious tone, along with the big and slick 90s summer box office style, and some of them, still looks like a billion dollar, at least compared to Commando. Which I guess did not have exactly a small budget at the time of its release, but it still seemed like something Cannon Pictures could have handed out, if they decided to make an Arnold Schwarzenegger film, full of obivous movie mistakes and hilarious "what the hell happened?" moments. But then again, I guess that is one of the reasons to why I love it so much, along with another similar themed mid 80s, one-man-army title in Death Wish 3. Anyway, when it comes to Commando and Total Recall (1990), then I guess we just have to agree on not disagree, as for me, they will most likely always belong among some of my all time favorite movies, especially when it comes to the films of Arnie.

I understand why people like Commando and Total Recall. Total Recall has a good story, I just am not a fan of Paul Verhoeven's style. RoboCop and Basic Instinct are the 2 exceptions. Now I don't think Total Recall is a bad movie, it just doesn't connect with me. There is a difference. Commando feels like it was written on the back of a napkin while some screenwriter was having lunch. I can appreciate that people like or even love the movie, but for me it is just too silly in the wrong way. Escape from L.A. is silly in an awesome way and I actually prefer it to the original, but I did see that movie before seeing Escape from New York. I am a fan of The Running Man though. It is a simple story and it is cheesy, but it is something different and it has good style.

Surviving the Game is pretty massively underrated as far as Busey's concerned... Always enjoyed this fast paced and well acted survival action-thriller, which comes with quite an impressive cast and really were one of those solid and highly enjoyable video classics, that often would be seen in birthday parties during the 90s. But somehow, I ended up often forgetting a few of these 90s titles, still I remembered the scenery/scenes, and I was so glad, when I finally found it on DVD back in the mid 00s, and I think it still holds up very well.

Straight Time for me, from what I’ve seen. He was a great actor. I think many forget that given the belief by many that he’s nuts. Same with Randy Quaid.
