I mean it virtually created a new subgenre of whimsical family-oriented science fiction.

Black Christmas comes to mind. Well maybe. It's kind of hard to gauge those films. There have been a lot of slasher films but many of them are sequels.

There are hundreds of slasher movies and very few are sequels. I would take it back to Psycho though, which is responsible for not only American slasher movies but also Giallo movies.

Roundhay Garden Scene from 1888 is the movie that has inspired the most movies, as it was the first movie even if its only 2 seconds long and has inspired every movie made after it.

I've always considered Jaws an eco horror film. The 70's were loaded with them. Especially one's with animals. If it's not the first it's definitely one of the top 2.

If you consider shorts, the Krazy Kat films were very influential. They opened up the scene for anthropomorphic animals in cartoons interacting with cartoons on the same level. Without those shorts, there'd be no Felix the Cat, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Mickey Mouse, or any number of other animated animal characters since.

What about Lost in Space? That isn't a movie though. I mean if we go to TV, The Twilight Zone is probably the most influential.
