Also that writer pick is hilarious. Going from writing “The Case for Reparations” for The Atlantic to penning a Superman movie... He sounds like the exact talent a superhero movie needs, JJ! Great work! Well, in between that and this he appears to have written a fuckload of comics for Black Panther, The Avengers and, more aptly, Captain America. So this is one of those rare occasions we have an actual comic book writer writing a comic book movie. onethreetwo

A Superman movie written by the controversial Ta-Nehisi Coates - who once called the first responders to 9/11 'menaces of nature' - and produced by JJ Abrams? Pass! And according to rumor this Superman will be Calvin Ellis, who was based on Barack Obama so don't be shocked if its fairly political.

As I expected, AngryJoe isn’t too happy about this.

Superman fought the KKK in the 1940s so this fits.
He wouldn't like Trump supporters either.
For all we know Trump is Lex Luthor with hair, or whatever it is.
Supes definitely supports overthrowing white privilege. even though he benefited from yellow sun privilege.

I’m probably reading too far into it, but I noticed that Ta-Nehisi Coates had this to say:
With that, I suppose we can’t necessarily exclude the possibility that this is set in the DCEU and happens to star Calvin Ellis or Val-Zod as Superman. That still wouldn’t mean that Henry Cavill would be in the movie, though.

I’ll gladly eat crow if this comes out and is amazing, but come on. Hire someone who writes for the Daily Wire or Breitbart and everyone riots (perhaps rightfully so); they have entertainment writers too. The point isn’t “liberal = bad.” The vast majority of my favorite entertainment icons are of the same affiliation. It’s that some nobody who’s written for the worst era of comics in history (according to you, I suppose I haven’t looked it up) and has nothing but a partisan past in popular culture all of the sudden is writing the Superman revival. It’ll be another vanilla, bland comic book bastardization. Get a hired gun for the most bland director/producer in recent memory, and you get something completely wrong. You of all people should know - Abrams fleeced two (TWO) Star Wars movies out of this newest trilogy. He’s a hack, and he’s ruined a couple of respected writers in his path of creative bankruptcy (Kasdan and Terrio).

I haven't even voiced any actual excitement for this movie, merely countered what I find some oddly leveled criticisms at the writer. You're aware he wrote an article about reparations, but not his comic book work? And you're still agnostic about the existence of his comics, but are certain they suck? And Judge is worried he'll politicize a guy who's slogan is "Truth, justice, and the American way"? And speaking of Terrio, none of these concerns were directed at him when he'd only written the also-political Argo, and, unlike Coates, absolutely nothing comic book related? *shrug*

WB famously announced a Flash movie a week after the CW show premiered , we are still waiting for that movie

Not much of Abrams fan, but I did enjoy The Force Awakens for what it was. Still, he's no Richard Donner.
