He's up there for sure, but it depends on how you measure stardom. Honestly, anymore it's not the actors who are stars it's the properties they're in. People don't line up to see Chris Pratt, they line up to see Starlord and Dinosaurs. Same goes with any of the Marvel guys. Tom Cruise's movies tend to make less money when it's not Mission Impossible, however that's not the case with Eastwood. It's not a guaranteed money maker if he directs a movie, but when he also stars in the movie, it's a guaranteed hit. The Mule made $144mill whereas Richard Jewell and 17:15 to Paris didn't even come close to the $100mill mark. I think he's a movie star that'll have no real staying power after he's dead because he's seemingly done everything in his power to make sure no millennial or gen Zer will ever buy anything related to him once he and the boomers are dead. He'll be reduced to an obscure black and white poster in a retro sports bar double wielding revolvers.

He had a franchise, the Dirty Harry line of films. That was before there really were a lot of “franchises” and before the term was even used when speaking of movies. I think he’ll always be remembered for those.
The era of the “movie star” is just about over though. Super hero films sucked the life out of that phenomenon.

Eastwood is the last old style performance-driven white man Hollywood star, although he was never as rugged as Heston or John Wayne. He's skinnier and less physical in action.
Look at the three contenders: Cruise is kind of on the effeminate side, DiCaprio as well, while the Rock--he's the macho muscle man Arnie type but he's not white. Why isn't Hollywood trying to create a new generation of movie star? It's like they are preparing to close shop.

Take his last movie he acted and directed - Gran Torino.. He was about 80 years old.
150 Million - US 270 Million - Worldwide
IMDB Score - 8.2 (750,000 votes - great sample size)
Can anyone try to estimate an actor (who also directed) who'll have these results at 80. I can't think of anyone.

Can a piece of wood be charismatic ? Yes , if they are John Wayne , Clint Eastwood or possibly Tom Hanks . As a director , his movies are compelling but somewhat flawed . They can hold your attention but have dead spots where nothing occurs throughout them . Out of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Clint Eastwood , which of these two actors is the more interesting ? I think Clint has presence as an actor , and as a director he can hold your interest . But I think he feels he has said as much as he can , and is beginning to leave the set stage and say his farewells .
