The closest anyone came to this not named Wilt was Kobe’s 81 point game. Four others made it to the 70s. This is a Gretzky type of record or an old time baseball pitching record, it will never be broken without collusion from the two teams involved.

My Dad worked that game as an usher when he was a high school senior.

I think it would frowned upon today and viewed as selfish and not team ball
Only one I can see come close to doing is a Steph clone - maybe somebody like Trae Young
He plays for a loser team so he makes it all about him

With the prevalence of the 3 point shot today, I think it could be done if somebody got hot from the get go and was really trying to do it. Booker's 70 point game wasn't anything special at the half, but down the stretch in the 4th his coaching staff was doing everything they could to get him more touches. They lost that game, they were terrible that season. But in that game they were hellbent on maxing out his point total. Imagine Steph Curry (or the next Steph Curry) playing an entire game this way for a team going nowhere, in a league where defense is optional. It's highly unlikely that a dude could get to a 100 points, but I don't think it's impossible.

That’s the all-time record and it gets him less than halfway there. If somebody doubles that record it still puts him 16 points short. Steph Curry on steroids and adderall wouldn’t break Wilt’s record.

I'll tell you who can do it if he wanted to -
Jo-Jo
and maybe Harden....
But I still say it'll be a Steph Clone like Trae one day.....

He can do everything
I mean everything.
Stephen A. and Max this morning had a debate on whether he is better than Shaq
Many compare him to Hakeem.
I love The Dream - but Jo-Jo is better than Hakeem.
Does this mean his career will turn out better than Shaq and The Dream?
Absolutely not - but all it means is it's currently trending that way if he continues to play like this.
It's scary - he can do everything. Dominate down low, hit 3s, he's got a post up game, mid range game, can break a man down in ISO with his Dream Shake - and the scariest - he's absolutely dominant at the Free Throw line

LeBron would pathetically collude so he could break Wilt's 100 pt game.

All that being said, Embiid wouldn’t come within 30 of Wilt.

All that being said, Embiid wouldn’t come within 30 of Wilt. In Embiid's situation -
I'm thinking it would have to be a playoff game
Where he's demanding the ball and is refusing to lose and has to put them on his back for them to advance
And he knows nobody can stop him. Two teams going back and forth and he keeps demanding the ball
Not a situation where Trae is just on a losing team and the culture is horrible and it's all about him getting his points - they just fired their coach today too and former Sixer Assistant Lloyd Pierce

Steph Curry on steroids and adderall wouldn’t break Wilt’s record. And yet Devin Booker scored 70 points-- 51 in the second half alone. Where is he on your list of all time NBA greats? They don't all have to be threes, my point was the shift toward three point shooting and wide open offenses has made it easier to get good looks for great shooters. This league wants you to score a ton of points. Players aren't seen as selfish anymore, there's no such thing as taking too many shots now. Big picture, I'm with you. My money is on nobody doing it. But I still don't think it's impossible.

All he has to do now is make a conference final. This is what I was saying above -
I can see Jo-Jo doing it if it was the playoffs - i.e. he just refuses to lose.....and keeps demanding the ball every possession
He's grown tired of bowing out in the playoffs....
I think you're going to see that this playoff season - not him putting up 100 per se - but just dominating and putting the team on his back

You think he's better than guys who carried teams to titles when he can't even make a conference final, it's great. Maybe this will be the year.

But I still don't think it's impossible. I get that it’s a different game today than even as recently as Jordan’s time. I’m just saying that in the entire history of the game, Kobe is the only player besides Wilt to get even 80, and it’s fair to say that Kobe could be a tad on the selfish side. 70 has only been achieved 4 times by non-Wilt players. Jordan, Lebron, Kobe, Melo, Harden, and literally everyone else you can name haven’t come close. I think of today’s players Harden could come the closest with the support of the other Nets, but there’s a wide gulf between coming close and actually breaking it. I think a pitcher has a better chance to get 30 wins or a QB passing for 6500 yards than anyone surpassing Wilt.

Like I stated above - obviously he can't be considered the better player than both Shaq and Dream at this point - but he's trending that way if he continues playing like this - and obviously he's going to need a few titles - but that's they way he's trending
More talented and skilled and more dominant than Shaq and Dream - he just needs the titles now......
