What are some great sports scenes from films that weren't really about sports at all?
I'll start with a couple of examples, and you guys take it from there.....
Cuckoo's Nest with the famous basketball game, and perhaps even the imagining of the baseball game that Jack does.
Wedding Crashers with the football game
MASH with the football game.
Your turns.....

The Last Boy Scout comes to mind. I mean it was sort of about sports but not in the way that Hoosiers was.

One of only two movies that I ever walked out of the theater in the middle because of how utterly awful the movie was. God-awful film. Still a good example for this thread, though.

Probably my favorite scene in the movie, with that Filter song playing.

The Ryan Reynolds vs kids hockey scene in Just Friends, which is a pretty underrated comedy in my opinion.

In a roundabout way - - hockey.

What was the other movie? Factotum, a film starring Matt Dillon that was based on a Charles Bukowski novel. Being a big fan of both Bukowski and Matt Dillon, I was really looking forward to this, but it was so friggin dull that I bolted halfway through the movie. Very disappointing film.

The basketball in The Basketball Diaries is incidental.

Very incidental: Fletch and Singles.

Football scene from the light tween comedy Sleepers
Basketball scene from the gritty, heavy teen drama 3 Ninjas.

The basketball in The Basketball Diaries is incidental. One could make the same case for bowling in The Big Lebowski. We never do see The Dude actually bowl one frame.

I watched this a few months ago, the first time I saw it since seeing it in theaters. It really didn't hold up well at all. It was vastly sillier than I expected it to be, and I expected it to be quite silly, I tell you. Love Kurt Russell though and Snake Pliskin can be on my team any day.
