I like that selection actually. Charles’ ethnicity isn’t strong canon AFAIAC. It wouldn’t even influence the casting of Juggernaut, as he was the step-brother of Charles. I wonder what they’ll do with Magneto. Will his origin still be connected to the holocaust? That would make him extremely old. Will they choose a more recent genocide to involve in his youth? Not many of those in Europe in the 60s-80s. So they may have to change his race too. I’ve thought the same thing for a while now. The passage of time will eventually make almost impossible for him to remain a Holocaust survivor. Unless they do something like “oh he ages slower than nonmutants.” Maybe they could be a black guy who suffered under the genocide of blacks by cops in the US 😋

I was really hoping he’d be Dr Doom. But I like this too. He’s a fantastic actor. Feel like he'd be typecast as Doom, I'd rather see him as Xavier. Not that I'd be opposed to him playing another classic villain, if they go that route.

It’ll be nice to see him play a good person after years of watching him as Fring.

That would lose China’s money forever!

I guess this is not a bad choice, though I've kind of gotten used to him playing villains. Will be difficult for me to wrap my head around him playing the kind, mild-mannered Xavier.

I’d argue that those hypothetical titles are much more vague in comparison, especially since there actually is a character in the DC Universe named Vigilante. There's a character in Marvel named Logan too.
Is there something about having X-Men or "X" in the title that doesn't work for you? I think it's the team's most defining characteristic. Putting an X in front of virtually any Marvel property conjures up the X-Men on the spot.
I don’t have a problem with it. I just don’t buy the idea that people will see a Marvel movie called ‘The Mutants,’ and not get an idea of what it’s about.

Hope they do something similar to Cyclops. Getting tired of him being the boring boyscout.

When The New Mutants (2020) came out, I didn't see it. We were on lock down and all the theaters were closed. However, this conversation made me wonder if The New Mutants could be in any way X-Men related. Never even thought about it once before.
I looked it up and sure enough, on Wikipedia it says The New Mutants is a standalone film in the X-Men series. I would have never guessed, and I've liked X-Men since the 90's. For me, relying on the term "mutants" isn't enough.

Him as Scott and Zoey Deutch as Jean were my choices. Worked together before and have chemistry. Was putting together a fan cast just last week and saw this today and thought maybe I had something there.

"...A new rumour shared by Screen Geek claims to reveal some new intel about Marvel Studios' plans. According to the site (and we're definitely taking this with a pinch of salt for now), Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men will be used as a basis for the eventual reboot. Meant as a course correction for the series after Grant Morrison's bleak New X-Men run, the title saw the team embrace being superheroes again, ditching black leather for colourful costumes."

Just don't let Joss Whedon write and direct the film

I really enjoyed that run. Not sure the Breakworld stuff would be the best antagonist for the new movies but the core XMen group here would be a solid first go.
