A great throwback to the kids movies of the 80s. A mix of Cloverfield and The Goonies, it really captures the charm of the similar movies they made in the 80s. Great atomsphere, nicely acted and directed and crisp cinematopgraphy.
It's nice to see there's some originality left in Hollywood.
It felt like a movie made in 80s but released in 2010s. Easily the best thing J.J. Abrams has done, IMO.
Also, greatest end credits of all time.

All I remember from that film was a bunch of annoying brats chasing after an alien on a train that crashed. The train crash was the only memorable thing about that shit movie.

Haven't thought about that movie in a long time. I remember it being very disappointing.

J.J. Abrams tries his hand at being Spielberg. Doesn't that basically sum up Abrams's whole career? He even talks like Spielberg.

Anachronistic. In 1979 what kids would have done a zombie movie? It would have been vampires or werewolves or aliens. The Romero zombie did not achieve significant notice until the end of the 80s and even then it didn't get much attention until 2002 or so.

It’s okay, but very formulaic and familiar. It’s mostly enjoyable though.
